Update: voice messages, notifications and more đź’ś

We know it because you tell us: a lot of you swear by voice messages. For many, a text will never replace a real voice note. And until now, Purple didn't have that.

It was a gap we had very much on our minds. This update is, in part, about fixing that.

Finally, voice messages

You can now send voice messages directly in your Purple conversations, up to 2 minutes per message.

Two minutes is more than enough to say what a text would never have conveyed. The tone, the laugh, that particular way of saying "okay so actually..." before admitting something. Your voice creates a connection that words alone don't always manage.

That link you shared that never opened

URLs in your messages are now clickable. You share a restaurant, an event, a playlist — and the other person can open it directly. No copy-pasting, no leaving the conversation to go search for it manually.

It's the kind of detail you only notice when it's missing.

Notification permissions

That moment when the app asks if it can send you notifications is often a decision made in a rush. And sometimes regretted.

We've reworked this screen to be clearer. And above all: if you accidentally said no, or if you simply change your mind, you can now re-enable notifications directly from the app's settings.

The input bar that now moves

This one is small. But it's one of those things we genuinely enjoyed building: the message input bar in DMs now has an animation. Subtle, but it makes the interface feel more alive, more pleasant to use day to day.

Boosted profiles that were getting cut off

Boosted profiles appearing above conversations had an issue: the spacing on the left and right was cutting off the sides of photos. That's now fixed. Profiles display in full, as they should.

Why these details matter

We don't build an app just to tick boxes. Every feature we add addresses a real friction we've observed.

We think about the girl who types a whole paragraph, deletes it, and ends up sending "haha yeah." The one who shares a link knowing full well the other person won't bother to copy-paste it. The one who misses a conversation because she never saw the notification.

These are small things. But small things add up. And they're often what turns an app from a tool you forget to open into a genuine habit.

We keep improving, little by little. đź’ś
